This SMS Opt-In Privacy Policy describes how 1212.tech handles mobile telephone numbers collected for the purpose of sending SMS notifications. It supplements our general Privacy Policy and our Campaign Terms and Conditions. By opting in to receive SMS notifications from 1212.tech, you agree to the terms set out below.
When you (or your church coordinator) provide a mobile phone number to receive SMS notifications from 1212.tech, we collect the mobile number, the timestamp of opt-in, the channel through which opt-in occurred (web form, in-app preference, or written request to a coordinator), and any subsequent opt-out records. We do not collect the contents of your SMS messages beyond what is required to deliver the notification and to provide a per-user activity log inside your 1212.tech account.
Mobile numbers provided for SMS are used solely to deliver 1212.tech transactional and notification messages — including shift reminders, schedule updates, swap-fill notifications, milestone acknowledgments, burnout-watch alerts, and announcement blasts sent by a coordinator to a defined segment of volunteers. We do not use your mobile number for marketing, advertising, or third-party promotional purposes. SMS is treated as a notification channel under your existing service relationship with 1212.tech.
Mobile information, including your phone number and messaging consent, will not be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. We do not sell, rent, lease, or otherwise transfer your mobile number or consent records to any third party for their own marketing, advertising, or commercial purposes. The only third parties that receive your mobile number are (a) Twilio, our contracted SMS delivery vendor, which processes the number solely to deliver the message on our behalf and is contractually prohibited from using it for any other purpose; and (b) the underlying mobile carriers (for example, Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile) that route the message to your device. We require Twilio and any successor messaging vendor to maintain at least the same level of data protection we apply ourselves.
Message frequency varies based on your role and activity inside 1212.tech. As a guideline, a typical active volunteer may receive up to four (4) SMS messages per week — primarily shift reminders sent 24–48 hours before a scheduled shift, occasional schedule-update notices, and direct swap-fill outreach. Coordinators may send announcement blasts to a defined segment of volunteers (for example, the entire Worship Team, or all volunteers scheduled for a particular Sunday); each blast is sent once and is not a recurring campaign. Coordinators may also receive additional administrative notifications. Frequency is not fixed; high-activity weeks may produce more messages, and quiet weeks may produce none. We do not send recurring marketing or promotional campaigns via SMS.
Message and data rates may apply to each SMS you receive from 1212.tech, depending on your mobile carrier and your individual service plan. Standard message and data charges from your carrier (such as per-message fees or per-megabyte data charges) are your responsibility. 1212.tech does not charge for sending SMS notifications and does not add any surcharge on top of your carrier's rates. Please consult your carrier's terms for details on applicable rates.
SMS opt-in is collected explicitly. Coordinators may enable SMS notifications for a volunteer only with the volunteer's affirmative consent (a checkbox, signed form, or equivalent affirmative action). Volunteers may also enable SMS themselves in their own notification preferences. A church may also offer keyword opt-in, in which a volunteer texts a designated keyword (for example, SERVE) to a designated short code or 10-digit long code; opting in via keyword requires the volunteer to text the keyword to that number, after which 1212.tech sends a one-time confirmation message that includes program details and the word STOP as required by CTIA Messaging Principles. We do not enroll phone numbers in SMS programs through inference, behavioral signals, or pre-checked boxes. The opt-in record (timestamp, channel, keyword used, and source) is retained in our audit log so we can demonstrate consent if requested.
You may opt out of SMS notifications at any time. To opt out, reply STOP to any SMS you receive from us, or disable SMS in your 1212.tech notification preferences, or email support@1212.tech with a request to remove your number from SMS programs. We honor opt-outs immediately upon receipt — typically within one minute for replies and within one business day for written requests. After opt-out, you will not receive further SMS messages from us except for one final confirmation that your opt-out has been processed.
For help with SMS notifications, reply HELP to any SMS you receive from us, or email support@1212.tech. We will respond within one business day.
We retain your mobile number for as long as you have an active relationship with 1212.tech or until you opt out, whichever comes first. If you opt out, we retain the opt-out record (anonymized number hash plus timestamp) for a minimum of four years to ensure you are not re-enrolled inadvertently. Upon account closure, your mobile number is deleted from active systems within 30 days and from backups within 90 days, except as required by law.
Mobile numbers are stored encrypted at rest in our Supabase-managed database. Access is restricted to authorized personnel under least-privilege controls. We do not log mobile numbers in application error messages or analytics events. Carrier-message routing through Twilio uses TLS 1.2 or higher in transit.
We will post material changes to this SMS Opt-In Privacy Policy on this page and update the effective date above. We do not provide separate SMS notice for policy changes; the standard privacy-policy change-notification process applies. Continued receipt of SMS notifications after a posted change constitutes acceptance of the updated terms. If you do not accept the updated terms, your remedy is to opt out of SMS notifications.

Carrier liability disclosure
Carriers (including but not limited to AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, and Sprint) are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. 1212.tech delivers messages through Twilio using standard application-to-person (A2P) routes. Carriers may, at their discretion, filter, block, or delay any message they determine to be inconsistent with their acceptable-use policies. We do not control carrier filtering and cannot guarantee message delivery.
